The Pipistrello table lamp is a design classic from renowned lamp manufacturer Martinelli Luce, which achieved cult status decades ago. It was designed in 1965 by Milanese designer Gae Aulenti exclusively for manufacturer Elio Martinelli from Lucca. The provocative and eccentric architect, who was later commissioned by François Mitterand to work on important construction projects, including the conversion of the Gare d’Orsay railway station in Paris into the famous Musée d’Orsay, designed buildings and museums all over the world, including in Venice, Istanbul and Barcelona.
The name ‘Pipistrello’ means ‘bat’ in Italian – the gently shaped lampshade is reminiscent of bat wings and provides a warm, diffused light. Each Pipistrello is available in three sizes and in a dimmable version. The variable height of the stainless steel telescopic rod (for the large and medium versions) allows you to adjust the lighting to your individual needs. The methacrylate lampshade is always white, but the base is available in different colours.
