Description

Casanuova di Nittardi is a pure Sangiovese from the single vineyard “Vigna Doghessa”. The vineyard lies in the commune of Castellina in Chianti (Siena) on a southfacing hill at 450 meters (1500 ft) above sea level and has a soil full of schist stones, which engenders the wine with a strong minerality and pleasant freshness. As all the vineyards also Doghessa is certified organic. Casanuova di Nittardi has been available every year since 1981 in a limited edition with an artist’s label and wrapping paper, created to date by Hundertwasser, Janssen, Penck, Arroyo, Combas, Yoko Ono, Tomi Ungerer, Günter Grass, Kim Tschang Yeul, Dario Fo, Karl Otto Götz, Alain Clément, Joe Tilson, Allen Jones, Mikis Theodorakis and Fabrizio Plessi, among others. The 41st label and wrapping paper was created by Oscar winner James Ivory.

Name: Casanuova di Nittardi Vigna Doghessa Chianti Classico D.O.C.G.

Grape variety: Sangiovese 100%

Alcohol: 14,5%

Soil: Soil with medium depth, full of schist stones (Galestro and Albarese) – and clay structure.

Vines per hectare: 6600

Date of bottling: June 2023

Vinification: Natural fermentation in stainless steel tanks, followed by 14 months in French oak barrels (500l and 700l, of which 10% new), 4 months in a concrete vat and a few months in the bottle

Profile: Bright pomegranate red with purple reflections, intense aroma of red fruits such as ripe cherry and plum, with spicy notes of maquis and white pepper. On the palate, it shows an elegant and juicy structure, with an important tannic backbone behind it that will give the wine length and allow it to age generously. Serve at around 16°/17° C.
