Dieter Hacker (born 1942) is a master of chiaroscuro, the art of painting light and shadow on canvas in such a way as to achieve a three-dimensional effect. The large-format work Lilli unterm Blumenfeld (Lilli under the flower field), in a limited edition, has a strong appeal and is a wonderful piece to look at, encouraging reflection time and again when hung on the wall.

Lilli unterm Blumenfeld, original mixed media print by Dieter Hacker (born 1942)

Only a few copies left.

In Lilli unterm Blumenfeld, a magnificent homage to his wife Lilli, the chiaroscuro is particularly successful. In the upper part, we see an opulent field of flowers, strewn with daisies that turn their gaze toward the sun and warmth. In the lower part, Lilli flees, alone, naked, into the shadows of the flower field. Her gaze is turned inward.

Here, the metaphor of life finds its vivid expression in Hacker’s painterly power and rich colors: nature follows its life cycle unchanged. Humans, on the other hand, have their own individual dimension. We too long for light and warmth. But we are more complex, and so our gaze is also directed inward: balance, thoughtfulness, and communication with ourselves enrich and keep our spirit alive. Thus, we see Lilli framed in white, captured by the artist in a purist manner.
